Introduction to Free-Form Weaving
Instructor: Samantha Loftin
Free form weaving is just that – anything goes! Play with color, texture and dimension in your weaving- the only rule is that nothing can fall off. Almost any material can be used: yarn, roving, cloth, jute, beads, charms, feathers, leaves, etc., etc., etc. Create your own unique woven art piece in this one-day workshop.
Students will learn how to warp a simple lap loom, weave a wall hanging, remove it from the loom and hang it from a dowel rod for presentation. After learning some traditional tapestry weaving techniques on a small sampler, each student will weave a unique wall hanging using a wide variety of materials. Students will take home their completed wall hanging as well as the lap loom and accessories.
No experience is necessary.
An assortment of weaving materials, warp yarn, lap loom, tapestry beater, and needles will be provided in class. Students may choose to bring additional materials to add to their woven piece.
