Beginning Tapestry Weaving- MARCH
Instructor: Mia Hanson
Tapestry is one of the oldest forms of woven textiles, and today is a popular and contemporary art form. A simple frame loom is the perfect introduction into tapestry weaving and expressing your creativity in yarn. In this introductory class, you will learn the basics of tapestry weaving, and experience the joy of covering your warp with gorgeous yarns, textures and shapes!
Throughout the course, you will learn how to warp a simple frame loom, weave different techniques and shapes, explore color and texture, remove your work from the loom, and mount it for display. To allow students the time needed for the slow and meditative craft of tapestry weaving, this class is structured as two two-hour sessions held a week apart. There will be time to practice during class, and time in between classes to work at home.
The loom is supplied and is yours to keep. A variety of yarns will be provided for the class to use communally, but please feel free to bring any chunky yarns you may want to work with. Please let us know in advance if you are not comfortable sharing materials during class, and we will make up an assorted bundle of yarn for you.
No experience is necessary. Adults and older children are welcome in this class.
Storeroom will be open before and after class sessions if you wish to purchase additional materials with your 10% class discount.
Face masks are required during class and in the building. We will ask students to wash their hands before beginning class, and hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes will be available for use in the classroom.
