Ashford Hand Carders
Ashford's hand carders are used in pairs to prepare fiber for spinning, or blend fibers or colors in the traditional way. Lightweight and easy to carry, they produce small rolags ready for spinning. All varieties have a curved paddle, stainless steel wire and flexible rubber backing, and ergonomic turned round handles for a comfortable grip.
The newest option, the Cotton Handcards, are suitable for super-fine fibers such as cotton, cashmere, and angora, with a carding surface of 10.5" x 3.5" (265 x 90 mm) and very fine teeth at 190 ppsi.
Classic hand carders have a comfortable round handle and flat carding surface, and are available with fine 72 point or superfine 108 point. Carding surface measures 8.5" x 5" (220 x 125 mm).
A smaller version of the Classic is also available in 72 point or 108 point, for a lightweight, portable option. Carding surface measures 7.25" x 3" (185 x 80 mm).
Flick carders are used singly, rather than in pairs, and are great as a first carder for preparing individual staples of fleece wool. The turned handle is comfortable to hold and use, made of durable Silver Beech hardwood. The flick carder can also be used for cleaning the drum carder. Available with fine 72 point.
