Beginning Spinning (SOLD OUT)
Instructor: Michael Kelson
Michael is the coordinator for the annual Men's Fall Knitting Retreat and the Seattle Men Who Knit meet-up. He is passionate about sharing his love of spinning with beginning students. By day he is a software professional, but on weekends he's out and about with his eSpinner in tow!
This class will introduce beginning spinning concepts to students who are new to spinning on a wheel. Session one will discuss basic wheel mechanics, fiber and various fiber preparations, getting started spinning at the wheel, and the basics of drafting. Students will be spinning singles by the end of the first session. Session two will discuss plying and yarn finishing, and different drafting styles including various forward draws, long draw, and spinning from the fold.
Students will be using shop wheels to be taken home for homework between classes. Students will need to place a refundable deposit of $300 by credit card, cash or check the first day of class. It is not appropriate to bring your own wheel to use during this class. If you have your own wheel, you may discuss it with the instructor on the first day of class.
